Three-time winner Wells will attempt a record-breaking fourth win in the Grand National Steeplechase when he runs over 4500m at Ballarat.

Since 2012 only two horses have been successful in one of Victoria's most prestigious jumps races, the Grand National Steeplechase..

Bashboy won the race in 2012, 2013 and 2015 with Wells winning in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

The pair are the only ones to have won the race three times since its inception which dates back to 1866.

Wells will be attempting a fourth victory at Ballarat on Sunday with 13 others nominated for the 4500m-race.

He carried 65.5kg to win at Sandown in 2014, 69kg at Ballarat in 2016 and 71.5kg last year on a heavy track.

Wells, who missed a start in the Crisp Steeplechase at Sandown on August 5 with a bacterial infection, won a Cranbourne school on Monday to have him at his peak for Sunday.

Other National nominations include those who filled the placings in the Crisp - Excellent Rhythm, Sea King and Monarch Chimes - along with last year's Grand National contenders I'll'ava'alf, Entirely Perfect and Mannertone.

Weights for the meeting, an all-jumps program, will be declared on Wednesday with final fields on Thursday.
