Racing Victoria has announced an additional meeting at Bairnsdale before the end of this season because of a high number of horses balloted out of turf races.

In response to a high number of horses being balloted out of recent turf meetings during winter, Racing Victoria has added a meeting at Bairnsdale before the end of this season.

The meeting will be conducted on Sunday week with eight races programmed ranging from maidens to 0-58 events and benchmark-64 races.

"We acknowledge that there are currently heavy ballots at turf meetings and have worked closely with the Australian Trainers' Association to provide an additional turf option for trainers," RV's executive general manager, racing & participant wellbeing, Greg Carpenter, said.

"We will continue to divide races, where possible, to provide maximum opportunities for horses to gain starts on turf."
