The oval-shaped Northam racecourse is 2017 meters in circumference, with a 425 meter straight. The final turn into the straight is cambered at 5%, with the rest of the straight cambered at 2 – 3%. The track is laid with kikuyu grass over a loam base and affords excellent drainage. It is one of WA’s premier winter racing venues hosting 25 races between May and October. Popular events include: Avon Valley Contractors Foundation Day Cup, a 1600m weight-for-age race for 3 year olds and upwards in early June. The Matriarch Cup, 1400m weight-for-age handicap for 3 year olds and over, run in July. And the Kids Big Day Out Handicap, weight-for-age, 3 year olds and over, 1600m held in October. Training facilities consist of a sand training track, round yard, education barriers, unofficial jump barriers and two bridle trails. Northam offers horse racing, harness racing, and grey hound racing throughout the year. The club has a restaurant, café, a canteen serving take-away food, and member’s facilities. Memberships are available through the Northam Race Club.
