Moonee Valley is a rectangular racetrack with rounded shoulders. It is 1805 meters in length with a straight of 173 meters. Races take place anti-clockwise on a StrathAyr Turf Track. The upper root zone is supported by sand and reinforced mesh elements, making the track soft under hoof. Within the gallop race track is a 965 meter harness racing track.
Moonee Valley hosts three of Australia’s most prestigious horseracing events: the Manikato Stakes, a Group 1 weight-for-age run over 1200m, run in October; the Australia Stakes, another Group 1 weight-for-age run over 1200m (each of these races are for a half million dollar prize); and the world famous WS Cox Plate – “The race of Legends” – a Group 1 weight-for-age run over 2040 meters and for a prize of 3 million dollars, run in October.
Moonee Valley racecourse offers guests A la carte dining boxes for 2, 4, or 6 people overlooking the home straight. Their Inner Circle three course carvery is located on the third floor of the grandstand. While the Jockey Bar offers members, and member guest ticket holders, premium buffet dining overlooking the mounting yard.
