The Newcastle Racing Course (also known as the Broadmeadow Racing Course) is a 2000 meter grass track with a 415 meter straight. It is home to the Newcastle Jockey Club and is renowned for its Boxing Day Races. Among its yearly feature events are: The Newcastle Newmarket Handicap, a Group 3 Thoroughbred open handicap over 1400m, held in March. The Cameron Handicap, a Group 3 Thoroughbred open handicap over 1500m held in September. And the Newcastle Gold Cup, another Group 3 Thoroughbred open handicap, but at 2300m, also held in September. Race goers are spoilt for dining choices at Broadmeadow. Among their world class venues are: Cheval’s Restaurant, overlooking the home straight and beautiful Broadmeadows scenery. Swish, a private function room on level 1 of the member’s grandstand; with full bar and catering, capable of comfortably entertaining parties of up to 40. And private trackside lawn marquees, with full waiter service and catering. Memberships and corporate box enquiries are taken through the Newcastle Jockey Club.
How to get there
From Maitland: Train – Hunter Line, Buses – ss6, 230, 231, 317, or 322, or drive via New England Highway and Maitland Road/ Pacific Highway.
From Budgewoi: Train – Central Coast and Newcastle Line, Buses – 11, 9, 80, 81, or 82 or drive via Pacific Highway A43.
From Cessnock: Bus - 164 & Train – Hunter Line, or drive via Hunter Expressway/ M 15.
