Peter Moody believes Moment Of Change should have the measure of stable mate Dissident when the pair line up in Saturday’s Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m).

Resuming in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 16, Moment Of Change finished runner-up despite carrying 62kg, eight kilos more than the winner Hard Stride.

Speaking after the six-year-old worked at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, Moody said Moment Of Change - a triple Group 1 winner over the Caulfield 1400m distance – had been targeted at the season’s first major.

“Moment Of Change worked super here at Caulfield this morning and he’s trained-on nicely since his first up run,” Moody said.

“He has a massive weight drop and he always runs well at this track and distance.

“He is certainly the pick of my two and I’d be disappointed if he’s not in the mix.”

The pre-post Memsie Stakes betting with Sportsbet reflects Moody’s opinion, with Moment Of Change currently rated a $6.50 chance and Dissident priced at $17.

After scratching Dissident from last week’s Warwick Stakes (1400m) in Sydney due the heavy track, Moody said four-year-old surprised him at track work by taking a while to get onto his right leg.

“He actually got a bit lost working at Caulfield this morning,” he said.

“Dissident hasn’t been in the Melbourne direction for a while and he hasn’t really been in Melbourne much since he was a two-year-old so he might take benefit out of the experience.

“I’m looking forward to getting him onto the bigger tracks like in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, that type of race.”

Nominated for the Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October, Moody said Dissident had to earn his way into Australasia’s weight-for-age championship this preparation.

“He’s got to prove to me that he can run a mile-and-a-quarter (2000m) so we’ll head down that path but we’re not afraid to deviate if we don’t feel it’s the right course.”
