Michael Hawkes, the Sydney-based member of Team Hawkes, believes their Epsom Handicap runners are both winning chances, reports Racing Network.

Team Hawkes has Toydini and Ninth Legion running in the Group 1 $500,000 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday, and Hawkes says they are both in great shape.

“Toydini was very good last time (when eighth behind Sacred Falls in the Group 1 $350,000 George Main) we thought,” he said.

“He was probably in the wrong spot too.

"He wants a good track, which he’ll get, James (rider, James McDonald) is in good form and he’s got a very good chance,” Hawkes told TVN this week.

On Ninth Legion, Hawkes was also buoyant about his chances, with solid form having run third at his past two starts in the Theo Marks and the Shannon Quality.

“He’s got a terrific chance down in the weights,” he said.

The latest fixed-odds market has Toydini equal second favourite at $6 along with Chris Waller’s Boban and He’s Your Man, while Ninth Legion is given a winning hope as an $11 chance.
