Jumps jockey Tom Ryan went through the full spectrum of racing’s emotions over the weekend –riding a winner, suffering a fall and copping a suspension.

It didn’t get off to a great start at Morphettville on Saturday with the Irish hoop sent to the turf when his mount Bold Zamour fell at the final hurdle.

But Ryan (and the horse) was OK and he was given the all-clear to complete his four rides at Bendigo on the Sunday but that didn’t begin smoothly either.

The rider pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge in the opening race, for shifting ground onYulalona when not sufficiently clear.

Ryan had his license suspended for five jumps races with stewards taking into account his guilty plea, excellent record and that the offence was in the mid-range.

But from that moment things immediately improved, the hoop jumping aboard Peter Moody’shighly-promising jumper Vatuvei and he won with ease in a stylish performance.

Ryan then finished with a third-placing on King Triton in the feature, the Mosstrooper Steeplechase – completing a big weekend in the saddle.

He’ll be back riding once his suspension expires at midnight on July 11.
