BALLARAT Turf Club’s venture to a stand alone Cup meeting proved a resounding success on all levels, reports Racing Network.

The club’s first ever Saturday Cup meeting at Sportsbet Ballarat drew a crowd of 10,130, which was a rise of nearly 275 percent than the corresponding Moonee Valley meeting last year.

And, it was a 40 per cent spike on the attendance the club drew for its Cup meeting held on a Sunday last year.

It wasn’t only the crowd that was significantly up.

Racing Victoria today released figures that highlighted that turnover across all operators was up 13 per cent on the Moonee Valley meeting.

And, total turnover among all operators - TAB, corporate bookmakers and betting exchanges - totalled $30.8 million.

It must be noted that Ballarat hosted 10 races/109 starters compared to the Moonee Valley meeting, which had eight races/95 starters.

The 2014 versus 2013 weekend comparison also saw a 2.6 percent increase with total turnover on all operators totalling $51.5 million.
